Poems by Parents
A Parent’s Promise
I saw the light dim in my child’s bright eyes,
A shadow had stolen their innocent skies.
I held them, bewildered, as tears fell like rain —
Their silence spoke volumes of unspeakable pain.
How could this happen? What evil could dare
To harm what is precious, so fragile, so rare?
I vowed in that moment, through anguish and fear,
That I’d be their fortress — I’d always be near.
The road has been bitter, the nights have been long,
But love is relentless, and love makes us strong.
I gathered my courage, I found my own voice —
For my child, for all children, I made a clear choice.
To speak for the voiceless, to fight for the weak,
To challenge the silence, the secrets we keep.
To shine a fierce light where the shadows have grown,
So no other parent will stand here alone.
Their healing is slow, but their spirit will rise;
I see hope returning like dawn to their eyes.
And while there are children still hidden, unheard —
I’ll battle injustice with action and word.
For I am a parent — I’ll never stand by.
I’ll lift up the fallen; I’ll answer the cry.
From trauma we’re forging a future that’s true:
A world safe for children — that’s what we must do.

When July Comes
July should be sunshine,
School shirts signed,
A proud hug with your child.
Not running, hiding, stripped of everything.
The child you know, still brave and kind
Now walks a dangerous path
No prom-night, no exam results,
Just staying alive.
You want so little- yet so much;
A moment’s calm,
A hand to touch,
To see them free from fear and fight,
To know their future will be bright.
And though July may dim the sun,
The fight for them is never done.
