This course is aimed at professionals who work with young people and families affected by exploitation. The course will develop your knowledge and understanding of parents’ experiences and the impact of exploitation on the whole family. The course reflects Ivison Trust’s 30 years of working with affected parents and carers and will enable the learner to understand best practice approaches when supporting families. The learner will hear from a parent with lived experience, understand the barriers parents and carers face, and how they can effectively support them, using Ivison Trust’s Relational Safeguarding Model.
Learning objectives
- Learn about the work of Ivison Trust- Relational safeguarding model and the Contextual Safeguarding approach
- Understand the impact of trauma and victim blaming on parents of exploited children
- Recognise the health impact on parents living with trauma
- Understand the barriers families can face when their trauma is misunderstood
- Explore evidence-based tools for working effectively with traumatised families

Dr Sarah Hall
Dr Sarah Hall has extensive experience as an academic researcher in child exploitation, influenced by her early career in youth work and parent support. Sarah is passionate about the importance of family-centered, holistic support for families affected by child exploitation.
